Wholesale solar power station in Chile

The project, to be completed in 2010, seeks, among other goals, to improve quality of conventional electricity services and to promote off-grid and renewable energy solutions, such as generators, solar panels and wind turbines. The Inter-American Development Bank has provided funding for three active electricity-related projects in Chile.

Its PV capacity was 2137 megawatt and it increased to 3104 megawatts by July 2020 with yet another 2801 Megawatt to be added recently. The photovoltaic plant's construction began in January 2015, and it began its operation in June 2016 with 160 Megawatt of panels, making it Chile's largest solar plant at the time.

Chile has exceptional solar potential and a favorable regulatory framework. In 2023, the deployment of photovoltaic parks reached 8.5 GW. The country is committed to increasing installed solar capacity to 22 GW by 2029. CVE's strategy is based on the production of decentralized renewable energies sold through short distribution channels.

ACCIONA developed the world's largest solar plant in the Atacama desert between October 2015 and November 2016, and it had the highest capacity of any such plant in Latin America when it was finished. Its peak capacity of 246 MWp, generates enough electricity to power roughly 240,000 Chilean households.
