Tajikistan cost-effective outdoor power supply price

According to the World Bank, Tajikistan's power production is 92 percent hydropower, six percent hydrocarbon, and two percent from other sources. Tajikistan's hydropower potential is estimated at 527 billion kWh per year, which exceeds the existing electricity consumption of the countries of Central Asia by 300%.

Several options for Tajikistan's cross-border electricity trading are explored in this report. The analysis indicates that resource availability and variations in seasonal electricity demand profiles in relation to its neighbours provide opportunities for Tajikistan to export electricity.

Prices vary but people typically pay 1.5 US cents/kWh. The TajikAluminum Company (TALCO), is the largest consumer in Tajikistan and uses about 50% of total electricity consumption. Many components of the transmission and distribution system are in bad condition and need to be replaced.
