Han et al. proposed a complementary evaluation framework for wind-solar-hydro multi-energy systems based on multi-criteria assessment and K-means clustering algorithms.
Based on the data provided by China Meteorological Administration (CMA), this research explores the spatiotemporal complementarities between wind and solar energy resources. This paper nondimensionalizes hourly wind speed and global solar radiation data and employs several indexes to compare the smoothing effect with various combining scenarios.
On the daily and monthly scales, except for the southeast region, the total output of wind power and solar energy is negatively correlated with the load demand in most regions of China, indicating that the characteristics of total output of wind power and solar energy are poorly matched with the daily and monthly characteristics of load.
At the hourly scale, the complementarity of wind energy and solar energy shows an increasing trend from east to west, with Qinghai, Yunnan and Xinjiang exhibiting the most pronounced complementarity.
The complementarity between wind and solar power generation is defined by the synergistic capacity of both sources to enhance electricity outputs and augment their reliability . Several indices have been introduced to assess the complementarity of wind and solar power generation across diverse temporal scales.
