Abstract: This study introduces a grid-connected inverter powered by fuel cells (FC). Though comparable to a battery, the fuel cell does not store energy. DC voltage is continuously supplied to the fuel cell. Oxygen (O2)and hydrogen (H2) are used as fuel inputs.
PEM fuel cell is continuously backup power for hybrid power systems. The efficiency of the inverter varies between 49.671% and 93.794%. The efficiency of the inverter exhibits superior performance at low hydrogen pressures in stand-alone hybrid PEMFC/Wind/PV power systems.
It is seen that studies on off-grid wind-solar-hydrogen energy systems focus on the headings of unit sizing, techno-economic analysis, power management strategies, and optimization . In studies conducted specifically for inverter, the most important factor affecting inverter efficiency is load conditions.
DC voltage is continuously supplied to the fuel cell. Oxygen (O2)and hydrogen (H2) are used as fuel inputs. In this research study, fuel cell is connected to a two-level inverter, and the inverter output is linked to a segregation transformer, whose output is connected to the grid.
Model results support CEC and CE standards. When 30% of the inverter output power is reached, the efficiency of the inverter takes its maximum value. After 30%, inverter efficiency begins to decrease. The nominal power of the inverter used in the model is 3 kW.
Model results comply with the inverter efficiency curve specified by the European Commission and U.S. Department of Energy procedures. In the model, the inverter energy efficiency of the hybrid system is compared according to temperature, wind speed, solar radiation, and hydrogen pressure.
