The Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) solar technology was first introduced in 1972 when Bonnet and Rabenhorst designed the CdS/CdTe heterojunction that allowed the manufacturing of CdTe solar cells. At first, CdTe panels achieved a 6% efficiency, but the efficiency has tripled to this day.
Cadmium telluride PV is the sole thin film technology having less costs than traditional solar cells produced with crystalline silicon in multi-kilowatt .
As a result of this comparison, it was mentioned that the CdTe solar panel emits less emission to the environment, but it is important to recycle the cadmium element in it since it is an extremely poison toxic substance.
After this stage, 10.89 kWh of energy is needed to produce semiconductor telluride from the telluride, and emission between 0.98–10.56 kg-CO 2 emerges as a result of the process. In order to obtain the semiconductor CdTe, 12.4 kWh energy is consumed and also emissions between 1.12–12.03 kg-CO 2 occur during the process.
GaAs solar panels are rarely sold in the market. These thin-film panels are more frequently used for spacecraft, military vehicles, space missions, and other specialized applications. CdTe solar panels and crystalline silicon solar panels are very different technologies.
For example, tellurium is an important constituent element of several TE systems (as described earlier), but it is equally critical for a major second-generation solar energy materialcadmium-telluride 194, 195 . This pits the two technologiesthermoelectrics and solar energycompetitively against each other. ...
